Ambassador Club Committee      Return to Index
DUTIES:

  • Make initial contact with all new members to drop off or mail new member packets
  • Provide new and existing members aware of benefits
  • Invite new members to social functions
  • Host and make introductions to other members "Work the Room"
  • Welcome new members to entire audience at start of program
  • Encourage new members to join and participate on a committee

Building Codes Committee      Return to Index

  • Maintain relationship with local county and municipal code officials.
  • Participate on Chamber of Commerce codes subcommittee, Stark County Residential Board of Building Appeals, or other similar public/private entities.
  • Develop and coordinate local goals.
  • Prepare bulletins on local code actions affecting BIA members.
  • Prepare system to alert local members when pending decisions of interest to industry are being considered.
  • Keep elected and appointed officials abreast of problems facing the industry which result from or can be solved by 'local action.
  • Have one member responsible for reporting to the Board and the Membership on state or national model codes/changes.
  • Develop programs for BIA seminars or meetings on code issues; include elected or appointed officials as appropriate.
  • Be responsible for information exchange with other local BIAs.
  • Develop list of BIA members who can testify before boards, commissions, committees, etc.

Complaint & Conciliation Committee      Return to Index
DUTIES:

  • Review and consider complaints received in writing from homeowners regarding a builder member of the Association.  Try to help the builder and homeowner resolve the dispute to their mutual satisfaction.
  • Follow Complaint & Conciliation Procedures approved by the Board of Directors.

Developers Council      Return to Index
DUTIES:

  • Maintain relationship with local county and municipal officials including county commissioners, regional planning, EPA, zoning, and county, sanitary, and subdivision engineers, and other related entities and officials.
  • Develop and coordinate local goals.
  • Prepare bulletins on local actions affecting BIA members.

  • Keep elected and appointed officials abreast of problems facing the industry which result from or can be solved by local action.

  • Develop programs for seminars or meetings on development issues; include elected and appointed officials as appropriate.
  • Be responsible for information exchange with other local BIA's.
  • Develop list of BIA members who can testify before boards, commissions, committees, etc.

Fall Circuit of New Homes Committee      Return to Index
DUTIES:

  • Plan and conduct a Fall Circuit of New Homes to produce budgeted income.
  • Set up rules and regulations.
  • Set up budget with Treasurer and Finance Committee.

Golf Outing Committee      Return to Index
DUTIES:

  • Plan the annual outing in the following areas: facility, favors, meals, limousine, and hole prizes.
  • Set-up at the course as needed.
  • Set-up and clean-up at the dinner facility as needed.
  • Volunteer services for the day of the outing (ex: run the beer cart, distribute and collect sponsor signs, serve lunch)

Government Affairs Committee      Return to Index
DUTIES:

  • Should have personal relationship with elected local (municipal, county, regional and national) officials.  It is important that the chairmen, commissions or boards involved in housing (zoning, planning, etc.) be acquainted with a member of the BIA legislative committee.
  • Should develop or coordinate local and state legislative goals.
  • Prepare regular bulletin on local government action for use by all members.  They should follow up State and NAHB Bulletins with appropriate action.
  • Prepare system to alert local members when pending decisions of interest to industry are being considered.
  • Committee should develop BUILD (Builders United for Improved Legislative Decisions) program at local level.  Program should be designed to assure that each elected and appointed local official is personally known by at least one member who can be called upon to do personal lobbying when needed.
  • Keep elected and appointed officials abreast of the problems facing the industry which result from or can be solved by local action.
  • Have one member who is responsible for reporting to the membership on state legislation and one member to report on national legislation - members who would receive state and NAHB legislative reports and flashes when they are delivered to local BIA office.
  • Develop political education program designed to urge members to campaign in elections.
  • Develop programs for BIA meetings involving legislative issues including participation by leading appointed and elected officials.
  • Be responsible for information exchange with other local BIAs, through both NAHB, state and local reporter and local BIA newsletter or magazine exchange.
  • Be responsible for developing list of BIA members who can testify before boards, commissions, legislative committees, etc.

Home & Garden Show Committee      Return to Index
DUTIES:

  • Plan, organize, and produce a Home & Garden Show as an income-producing project.
  • With Secretary-Treasurer and the Exec. & Finance Committee, develop a budget of income and expense along with bookkeeping and auditing procedures.
  • Promote the Home & Garden Show and sale of exhibit space through brochures, advertising, and publicity.
  • Arrange special entertainment and attractions.
  • Maintain ticket and box office supervision.
  • Obtain full membership cooperation.
  • Supervise Exhibition Hall relations, booth sales, and exhibits.

Job Placement/Education Committee      Return to Index
DUTIES:

  • Establish and maintain a relationship with school districts that offer educational courses in building and home construction trades.
  • Identify and implement methods to make students aware of opportunities available in home construction within Stark County.
  • Develop, in conjunction with the school districts, a process to identify those students interested in temporary or full time employment in the building industry.
  • Seek out and inform BIA members who are looking for temporary or full time help in all aspects of home construction.
  • Attempt to place students in temporary or eventual full time employment with members of the association.

Membership Services Committee      Return to Index
DUTIES:

  • Plan and conduct programs for membership development.
  • Establish goals (immediate and long-range) for membership.
  • Review, select membership aids/materials available from NAHB and other sources.
  • Coordinate membership promotions with NAHB contests, drives at State level.
  • Recommend and assist in production of local membership materials, brochures… including publication to all members of updated membership directories.
  • Investigate all applications and references for membership, and report on progress to the Board of Directors and to the Membership when called upon.
  • Attend monthly committee meetings.
  • Member recruitment and retention.
  • Participate in annual membership drive.
  • Make phone calls re: cancellations, dinner meeting participation for new members.
  • Review and discuss action on late payments and cancellations.
  • Attend the New Member Orientation.
  • Contact inactive of dissatisfied members. Solicit their suggestions and explore methods of correcting problems.
  • Develop and promote services beneficial to members (insurance, workers' comp. cellular phone discounts).
  • Develop surveys geared toward new ideas for member services.  Create new programs and services.
  • Help communication and retention efforts through contact with sponsors.

Nominating & Awards Committee      Return to Index
DUTIES:

  • See BIA By-Laws.
  • The importance of the Nominating Committee cannot be overemphasized.  This group is responsible for the continuation of good leadership in the local BIA and good liaison with OHBA and NAHB.
  • Nominees for local office should be selected from members who have proven their dedication to the BIA and their leadership ability by prior service.
  • Nominees for all offices should be selected according to procedures outlined in the BIA By-Laws.
  • Nominees for National Director should be required to pledge in advance that they will attend and report NAHB Board Meetings.  They should be active on the local BIA level to insure true representation of the membership.  Candidates for Alternate National Director should meet the same requirements.
  • Candidates for State Director should meet the same high standards as those for National Director, with advance assurance they will attend and report on all State Board Meetings.
  • All nominees must be selected on the basis of the potential service they will render to the membership; never nominate a member for office merely as a method of bestowing honor.
  • Determine criteria for Builder Member of the Year, Associate Member of the Year awards; solicit nominations and select recipients.
  • Determine criteria and categories for House/Condo of the Year awards.  Solicit entries.

Duties:

  • Plan and coordinate the annual installation banquet where past leaders are honored and officers and directors are installed for the coming year.
  • Meet regularly with the incoming BIA President prior to the banquet held in January each year.
  • Work with incoming president to determine plans for the ball regarding: facility, entertainment, menu, decorations, agenda, master of ceremonies, and attire.
  • Obtain sponsors for the event.
  • Promote the event to other members.

Program/Education Committee      Return to Index
DUTIES:

  • Prepare a planned series of programs for the year.
  • Publicized the dinner meetings through fliers, newsletters, etc.  Encourage builders to attend.
  • Conduct educational programs and seminars on subjects of interest.
  • Review budget allowances and ideas for speakers.
  • Help to plan and promote special events as needed (ex: Indians Outing, Christmas Party).
  • Promote seminars and educational programs.
  • Conduct surveys to keep aware of educational wants.
  • Continue to provide quality programs at membership meetings through informational/entertainment style forum.

Public Relations Committee      Return to Index
DUTIES:

  • Advise BIA President and Board of Directors on Public Relations aspects of all BIA activities.  The task involves communicating both externally to the public - and internally to the members.  Invoke all means of communication.
  • Encourage use of NABB public relations and promotion materials.
  • Encourage use of NAHB/Local/State emblems in advertising, signs and letterheads.
  • Publicize BIA activities including speakers and public service activities.
  • Encourage BIA participation in community service projects.  IE: United Way, Cultural Center for the Arts, Habitat
  • Be ready to assist in case of local disaster.
  • Promote BIA services to members through an internal information program - newsletter, magazine, article in local newspaper, bulletins or brochures.  Utilize useful publications available from NAHB.

Sales & Marketing Council      Return to Index
DUTIES:

  • Participate in seminars and educational opportunities regarding sales and marketing strategies, builder/realtor relationships, etc.
  • Provide and support CSP and MIRM designation continuing education opportunities.
  • Communicate to one another any new developments in sales & marketing strategies.
  • Communicate benefits and services of SMC program to current and prospective members.
  • Continue to improve awards program.
  • Continue to recruit new members.
